What is Devolution? Devolution is when the national government gives more power and money to local governments.
This means local leaders can make better decisions for their community because they know what people need.
What is the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority (GLCCA)? The GLCCA is a new group that will decide how to spend money to make life better for everyone in Greater Lincolnshire. They will focus on:
- Better Transport and Roads: Making it easier to travel around.
- Better Internet: Improving broadband and digital services.
- Protecting the Environment: Working towards net zero and a cleaner environment.
- Good Quality Housing: Ensuring everyone has a nice place to live.
- Boosting the Economy: Helping local businesses create new, high-paying jobs.
- Better Training: Making sure people have the skills to get these new jobs.
Why is This Important? With the GLCCA, decisions can be made locally, which means they can be more effective and tailored to our needs. A new mayor will be elected to lead this group, providing strong leadership and accountability.
Who is Involved? The GLCCA includes Lincolnshire County Council, North Lincolnshire Council, and North East Lincolnshire Council. They will work closely with the seven district and borough councils to ensure everyone has a say.
What’s Next? The first meeting of the GLCCA will be around March 2025, and the first mayoral election will be in May 2025. The new mayor will be chosen by voters from Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, and North East Lincolnshire.
This is an exciting time for Greater Lincolnshire, bringing more local control and opportunities for our community!
