On Saturday 6 September, residents gathered at the Community Garden and Winchelsea Centre to mark 80 years since the end of World War II with a special community celebration.

The day was filled with music, activities, and opportunities to reflect on the past.

Highlights of the event included:

  • Performances by the Winchelsea School Choir and the ever-popular Happy Pluckers Ukulele Band

  • A successful book launch by Graham Conway on Ruskington War Memorials

  • A stall and display by the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre, sharing wartime history with visitors

  • Delicious cream teas, served by volunteers and enjoyed in the garden

  • Traditional 1940s indoor and outdoor games for all ages

  • Ruskington Community Church’s children’s activity, where youngsters planted forget-me-nots

The Parish Council would like to thank all who contributed to the day, from the local groups and organisations who took part, to the volunteers, performers, and residents who joined us.

The event was a fitting way to remember the sacrifices of the wartime generation while celebrating the strength and spirit of Ruskington today.
