Garden of Remembrance gates wide shot.

We’re delighted to share that the Garden of Remembrance in Ruskington has undergone a thoughtful and much-needed renovation, making it more accessible, safer, and welcoming for all visitors.

Over the past few weeks, the Parish Council caretaker team members have worked tirelessly to upgrade the pedestrian surface of the garden. The project involved:

  • Removing and reusing existing gravel
  • Excavating and levelling the ground (removing over 22 tons of spoil!)
  • Installing new wooden edging and laying 17.2 tons of limestone
  • Compacting 3.5 tons of sand and fitting Eco-Pave grids
  • Re-laying gravel with an additional 1.2 tons added for stability
  • Repairing tarmac at the entrance and reinstating the gate

Accessibility improvements were a key focus: the paths around the central flower bed and to the bench have been widened to at least 1 metre, ensuring wheelchair and mobility scooter access.

A section near the wall has been reseeded and will remain fenced off while the grass establishes.

This renovation not only enhances the garden’s appearance but ensures it remains a peaceful, inclusive space for reflection and remembrance.

What’s next? In early 2026, the perimeter paths will be removed and replaced with grass to further soften the space.
