Flooding concerns in Ruskington are being actively addressed thanks to a major drainage investigation and improvement project led by Lincolnshire County Council (LCC). Here’s what you need to know:
What’s Being Done?
- Drainage system cleansing began on 27 October 2025, starting with Westcliffe Road and Manor Street.
- The work is split into 12 phases, with traffic management in place to keep workers safe and minimise disruption.
- Temporary traffic lights will be used during working hours and removed daily once work is complete.
- Night work is planned for Phase 4 to reduce daytime disruption.
What’s Being Investigated?
- LCC is using cameras and jet washing to inspect and clean highway drains.
- Anglian Water drains are being considered where they connect to LCC systems.
- A hydraulic model is being developed by Stantec to understand how water flows through the village and surrounding areas.
- This model will help identify long-term solutions, such as water storage areas upstream (e.g. Horseshoe Hollow).
What About Your Property?
- Threshold surveys will be carried out door-to-door to assess flood risk at individual homes.
- Residents will receive letters, and the Parish Council will be kept informed.
What’s Next?
- The hydraulic model is expected by March 2026, with testing and planning to follow.
- The full project may take 2–3 years, including landowner consultations and legal steps.
- LCC is working with Network Rail and using Land Registry data to identify land for potential flood mitigation.
