We’re pleased to share some good news from Horseshoe Hollow, where two new willow trees have now been planted.
The trees (Salix alba) were planted this week and were funded using donations from St George’s Academy Ruskington Campus, following the flooding in October 2023. This was a generous contribution and a positive step towards supporting the local area.
Willow trees are fast growing and well suited to wet ground. Over time, they will help absorb water from the nearby beck flood banks, supporting longer‑term flood resilience in the area.
An exemption for a flood risk permit was applied for and granted by the Environment Agency on 10 April 2026, allowing the work to go ahead safely and within regulations.
Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen, including our grounds and environment caretaker team and St George’s Academy Ruskington Campus for their support. It’s great to see practical improvements that benefit both nature and the community.
